Accurate cylindrical grinding, a super flat surface or the finest surface required? Everything is possible: surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, fine grinding, honing, ...
Manufacturing process CNC grinding
CNC grinding has been one of WIEDMANN's basic manufacturing processes for decades. We use high-precision CNC grinding machines for the finest surfaces and utilize all available grinding processes:
- Surface grinding
- Profile grinding
- Cylindrical grinding
- Vibratory grinding
- Internal and external grinding
- Center grinding
- Honing
Finest precision surfaces, minimum dimensional tolerances, first-class product quality: At WIEDMANN this is a matter of course - realized by the highest quality tools, modern grinding machines and above all by our specialist staff, our CNC experts.
MADE IN GERMANY. The CNC grinding production process is carried out 100% in-house in Germany. From cutting the raw parts to length to turning and/or milling to CNC grinding.

Advantages of CNC grinding
- Finest surfaces – ultra-smooth surface, polished surface, mirror-like surface, satin surface or standard industrial finish
- Highest precision – highest surface precision with exceptional accuracy
- Efficient processing – through Computerized Numerical Control (CNC production)
- Increased reproducibility – particularly useful for complex geometries
- Wide range of materials – a wide variety of base materials can be processed
- Economical production process – particularly decisive for large batch sizes
Range of applications & equipment
At WIEDMANN, we realize customer-specific surface qualities for a wide range of sectors and industries. All degrees of roughness (Ra) are feasible:
- RA 3.2
- Standard design: Suitable, for example, in the consumer goods sector. Parts approved for plug-in, vibration and load applications.
- RA 1.6
- Smooth surface: Rare machining marks. Suitable for assembly, vibration and high-voltage applications.
- RA 0.8
- Outstanding surface: Ideal for turning, sealing and applications with extreme vibrations and loads.
- RA 0.4
- Finest surface finishes: Suitable for highly rotating parts and sensitive applications.
For the optimum surface finish, we rely on our many years of expertise and our extensive range of machinery, including various sanding machines, various supplementary tools and precise measuring technology.

More information on CNC grinding
CNC grinding enables the finest surfaces and contours. So far so good. But how exactly does CNC grinding work? What types of material can be processed using CNC grinding? What factors have an influence on CNC grinding?
How does CNC grinding work
CNC grinding is used for smoothing surfaces and defining final contours when this cannot be achieved using conventional processes such as turning or milling.
During CNC grinding, excess material is removed with the grinding tools and maximum flatness of the surface is achieved with a constant removal rate. Even the hardest materials such as carbide or ceramic can be economically finished with high dimensional and shape accuracy.
Which materials can be CNC grinded ?
A wide variety of materials can be processed using CNC grinding:
- Metal
- Plastics
- Ceramics
- Glas
Influencing factors in CNC grinding ?
Many factors influence the roughness of the surface or the surface quality. In order to keep the roughness value within customer-specific limits, we at WIEDMANN harmonize all factors with each other. Decisive factors include:
- Machinability of the base material - the more difficult the machining, the rougher the finish
- Feed speed - High feed speed increases the roughness value
- Cutting speed - the hotter the higher the surface roughness
- Cutting depth - the deeper the cut, the rougher the surface
- Quality of the machining tool - higher wear on the tool produces higher roughness
Technical specifications for CNC grinding

- Rz = 0.1 to 3.2 μm
- Tolerance class:
